Overview

SSHDB is a database engine built for faster, safer data collection and agile, concise data expression. Unlike SQL-based systems, it accesses the file system directly for data I/O — pairing especially well with SSDs to maximize input/output efficiency. Developed as open source, it was crafted with a relentless focus on continuous improvement.

A database (DB1) holds its tables — TABLE1 through TABLE5 — stacked like layers inside a single vessel.
Access control, made tangible — without administrator rights, everything below the cut line stays sealed.
Once authorized, the lid lifts away and every table inside becomes readable.

A database (DB1) holds its tables — TABLE1 through TABLE5 — stacked like layers inside a single vessel.

Access control, made tangible — without administrator rights, everything below the cut line stays sealed.

Once authorized, the lid lifts away and every table inside becomes readable.

Everyone should be able to access data easily.

This belief shaped every decision behind SSHDB.

Features

01

Simple & Intuitive

Installs with a simple file copy on any server running Apache and PHP. Its visual data structure, intuitive functions, and admin page are optimized for efficient database design.

02

Thorough & Secure

Fundamentally blocks data access via .htaccess and screens out unnecessary access through multiple algorithms, keeping your data protected at the core.

03

LINK — Remote Data

A new approach to fluid data integration. LINK lets you manage remote databases as if they were local — no separate tools required.

04

Big Data Ready

The core algorithms were rewritten from scratch to handle large-scale data gracefully, with the Stack option (SOS — Size Of Stack) for capacity control.

05

Reliable Backup

Storage matters as much as I/O and security. A dedicated backup algorithm minimizes the risk of losing your precious data.

06

IE6 to Retina

The admin UI, built on years of UI experience, supports everything from legacy browsers like IE6 to Retina displays — delivering the same result to every user.

Data Structure

Country › City › Town › House = Database › Table › Variable › Element

Just as we address a house by Country › City › Town › House, SSHDB stores and finds data through a vertical hierarchy. This structure helps locate any data in the shortest possible time.

Database DB

The largest unit. Provides id, date, and tag attributes.

Table Table

An independent partition within a database. Adds the extensible option attribute (e.g. SOS).

Variable Var

Distinguishes the kind of data within a table — like name, password, email.

Element Ele

The smallest unit, holding the actual value along with its base attributes.

Interface

A web-based admin console built across years of UI craft — from IE6 to Retina.

ET News (전자신문) Software that Shined in 2013 · Prime Minister's Award

SSHDB, by Seo Seunghyun, won the Prime Minister's Award.

SSHDB is a database that provides functions designed for free data I/O without using SQL. With a single click, it implements a range of advanced features — backup, big-data handling, and flexible option settings.

It supports cross-browsing across most browsers, including Internet Explorer 6. It can replace or run alongside existing databases, sharing the burden of frequent data I/O.

SSHDB is a non-profit database and data management solution. True to the goal it set out with — "Everyone should be able to access data easily" — it was built to become a vessel that holds every expression in the world.
